
The farming environment in the Gambia is characterized by low and unpredictable rainfall, small and scattered agricultural holdings, shortage of crop yields and low variable income. The Gambia aim is to make use of draft animals (oxen, horses,donkeys and cattles) as a source of farm power for farming operations and related activities. In this way it is intended to use animals traction to help meet the national objective of increasing crpp production the effective and sustained use of appropriate mechanization techniques. Consequently, the bulk of mechanization studies conducted in the Gambia have focused mainly on animals. Musa Mballow
