Rice is a stable food crop grown and also imported to the Gambia.it looks like grains before it is processed,which involves pounding in a mortar with a pestle.there are several varieties of rice that are available but only two varieties of it are widely grown in the Gambia.it is grown is what is called a (faro) known as a rice paddy field.in the upland areas where the water from the river is not too salty and the fields not too high to prevent the fields from being flooded.it is during the raining season when farmers plants the seedlings from the nurseries to the rich paddy field.at the end the rice crop is harvested and the seeds are separated from the husk by various threshing techniques.some farmers will use the rice as food and somr will use it to generate money through the sale of it.
