Domestic fowl (chicken) in Gambia
Chickens are the most common and important birds in a poultry industry. Poultry is a term used to describe all domesticated birds raised either for meat or egg production. This include domestic fowl known as a chicken, guinea fowl, goose, duck etc. But chickens are the most common and important in a poultry industry as initially mentioned. Chickens are of three types namely: Broilers ,Layers and dual purpose breeds. The Broilers are raised for meat production, Layers for layinh eggs and the dual purpose breeds are for both egg and meat production.in addition a adult male chicken is called a cock while an adult female chicken Is called a hen and a young chicken is called a chick. Chickens are also used as a source of income to the keeper and also for religious purpose. Musa Mballow
